𖡡 Brussels, Belgium
A very exclusive behind-closed-doors look inside the Palace of the Academies—a true hidden gem in Brussels. This magnificent royal palace was built in the 1820s on behalf of Crown Prince William II of Orange-Nassau, in what was then still the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
This palace was briefly inhabited by Prince William of Orange and Princess Anna Pavlovna, until the 1830s Belgian Revolution caused the Dutch royal family to flee. Subsequently it became state owned when Belgium gained independence.
Today this imposing building houses many of the renowned Belgian Academies, such as The Royal Academy of French Language and Literature and the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts. Notable prizes of exceptional achievements in science and arts are being awarded by King Philippe of Belgium in this very building.
