Campus Rommelaere

Item Info

For Studio Monumento
𖡡  Ghent, Belgium

The beautiful Rommelaere Instituut—a historical university campus in the very heart of Ghent. It was built in 1899 by architect Louis Cloquet, a renowned Belgian architect who designed many famous landmarks in Ghent, such as the Old Post and the Sint-Pieters Station.

Up until 2025 this was the home of the Institute of Hygiene, Bacteriology and Forensic Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine. The University of Ghent, owner of the building, plans on selling this unique property.

Meanwhile they’ve appointed a caretaker: Studio Monumento, an organisation who looks into repurposing vacant buildings during transitional periods. Dubbed Re-Rom the site will be a temporary home for architects, educational institutions, start-ups, indie coffee-roasters and other small businesses.

Studio Monumento contacted me to document the entire site for marketing purposes and for the creation of video content for social media.
