For DEME-Group
𖡡  Seraing, Belgium

End of an era. The demolition and subsequent soil remediation of the Cokerie d’Ougrée coking factory in Seraing, Belgium. A historical site, founded in 1837. The plant was mainly used to transform coal into cokes, as fuel for the many blast furnaces in this area. Steel giant ArcelorMittal took over the site, until operations ceased in 2009.

Wanty
is in charge of the demolition while DEME-Group is remediating the soil, salvaging metal, handling the disposal of toxic waste and the encapsulation of the contaminated basin.

As of September 2025 the 120m tall chimney was finally demolished, changing the landscape of Liège forever. This enormous plot of land is to become a brand new business park, serving our future generations.
